Ocean Modeling

MITgcm is being applied to study phenomena across the whole plethora of scales in the ocean, such as:

Ocean gyres
Global ocean circulation
Convection and mixing over topography
Boundary forced internal waves
Parameter sensitivity using the adjoint of MITgcm
Global state estimation of the ocean
Ocean biogeochemical cycles

Read here about the use of CMI models in the study of the role of ocean circulation in climate.

We are also using CMI models to study the role of the ocean in climate, climate variability, past climates and abrupt climate change. Our models are also being used as a tool in the analysis of ocean observations.
