Minors
In addition to offering the S.B. degree, the
Department also offers a minor program in applied earth science with specialization in
Geoscience, Physics of Atmospheres and Oceans, or Planetary Science and Planetary
Astronomy.
A minor degree in our Department makes an excellent
complement to planned degrees in civil engineering, chemistry, biology, physics, urban
studies, ocean engineering, economics, aeronautics and astronautics, or applied
mathematics. These combinations provide an excellent foundation for careers in applied
science which touch on any area of earth science.
To complete a minor degree students must complete
five courses. Two courses are core requirement courses. Another is some form of laboratory
or field work, which can be accomplished by completing an independent research project.
Also, an Institute LAB subject offered within the department, or 12 units of IAP subjects
is required.
