Assignment 6: Weekend Forecast Practice

1. Reading  

Read notes on Precipitation Forecasting.

2. Current Weather - Practice on Forecast Contest

Part 2 of today’s assignment consists of a ‘mock forecast contest’, in preparation for next week ‘real forecast contest’!    We will practice looking at today’s weather and forecast outputs and forecast the following three quantities:

Maximum Temperature (Tmax)

Minimum Temperature (Tmin)

Precipitation (Pcat)

for Boston over the following day:

Saturday, January 19, 06 GMT – 20, 06 GMT  

Each of you is also encouraged to do the same forecast exercise over the weekend:

on Saturday January 20 forecast for Sunday January 21, 06 GMT - 22, 06 GMT

and Sunday January 20 forecast for Monday January 21, 06 GMT - 22, 06 GMT

All information should be recorded in the Forecast Sheet and submitted by 7pm.

3. Case study: getting ready for your TV style presentation

Check the weather for your station and try to meet with your group members to plan your presentation. For guidelines see here.

NOTE.  This is what is expected from Assignment 6:

Part 1- Reading

No reading.

Part 2 - Current Weather

a.) Submit Forecast  for Saturday

b.) Submit Forecast for Sunday and Monday (optional)
