12.804: Vortex Interaction

In this project we will use analyzed fields to study the interaction between observed cyclones and anticyclones. Examples:

Tropical Cyclones in the south Pacific: Olaf and Nancy (Feb, 2005)

Tropical cyclones in the Atlantic: Gaston and Hermine (Aug, 2004)

Tropical Cyclones in the Indian Ocean: Three Cyclones (Feb, 2003)

Blocking Dipoles:

Make use of 'Custom Plots' from the Synoptic Laboratory web to produce the following plots:

Height:  height and wind  or gdplot

Vorticity: height and vorticity

Potential Vorticity: gdcntr and gdcross

NOTE: to plot the Ertel PV use the following example file: 
gdcross_ipv
